Knowing The LORD

Scripture

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you.

~Psalm 9:10, NLT

I am a slow reader and I read or reread things twice and some times more. I have a tendency to either see things that are not there are miss things that are. In my first reading of Psalm 9:10 this is what I saw, “Those who know the LORD trust Him.” I wrote “blog” in the margin. When I went back and reread the verse I saw what I had missed, “Those who know Your name trust in You.” Unfortunately, the NLT does not capitalize the person pronouns that are a reference to the LORD. Since God’s name is indictive of His character, I would not be doing an injustice to say that those who know the LORD trust in Him.

My wife knows me and so do my children. They can tell you what I am going to do and how I am going to react before it happens. Why is that? It is because they know me. People who really know you know how to push your button or pull your string: I am speaking metaphorically. They sent me a text the other day about a certain family member who was wearing jeans that might be intepreted at funny boy britches. My immediate instructions were: “Don’t take any chances–get rid of the jeans.” They know exactly what to say or do to puch my button. Trust me, you don’t have to push hard.

Why do I trust the LORD? Because I know Him. In seventy-five years He has been faithful. He has kept every promise. He has been there for me in every crisis. The more I know Him, the more I trust Him. My deepest desire is to know Him better.
