The Gap Theory

Scripture

Not one of the good promises which the LORD had made to the house of Israel failed; all came to pass.

Joshua 21:45 NASB

Quote

Faith is trusting what is said {the promise}, and the One who said it.

My Thoughts

Literally speaking, “the Gap Theory” is the belief that God created the world in eons or ages which differs from the view that he did it in six literal 24 hour days. I lean toward the second view but I have no problem with those who hold to the first. However, this is not the gap I am referring to in this blog. There is usually a gap between God’s promise and the fulfillment of that promise. He promised Eve a descendant who would defeat Satan and regain what she and Adam lost. The gap theory is very obvious in the lives of Abraham and Sarah. God gave them a promise, they would have a son, but it was 25 years later before that son was born. Many of God’s promises are this way: first we have His word and that is all we have. Abraham had God’s work but Sarah was not gaining any weight, so they waited and twenty-five years later, they get Isaac. Twenty five is a long time to wait for a baby.

Paul said in Romans 4 that Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. Abraham was 100 and Sarah was 90, humanly speaking, there was no hope, yet Abraham believed what God had said and so he waited on the promise. Abraham saw the first phase of the promise fulfilled which was Isaac’s birth but he never saw the nations, yet he died believing God would keep His promise and you and I know that he did. He always keeps His promises.

Randy Lewis is not good. Pray for Randy and Vicki. I think he could be promoted anytime. He never woke up yesterday when I was there: he did not respond in any way.

We have to cut through some concrete today as we get ready for our walk-in shower. We will most likely be at the compound all day.

Stay warm and have a great day. THANKS for reading the blog.
