A ‘Soul’ Gone Bad

Aestheticism is the philosphy of beauty detached from morality.

My Thoughts

This the second time I have attempted to write this blog. I had it ready and the window disappeared and I worked for an hour trying to recover it before throwing in the old proverbal towel. Whereas the LSB uses the word ‘rob’ the soul, the KJV says ‘spoil’. Other translation used the word ‘ruin’. I like the word ‘spoil’ and I am thinking about milk or meat that gets spoiled. My daddy believed it was a sin to waste food but he always taught us not to take the second bite of spoiled meat. Although Solomon was filthy rich he does state the truth about the tendency of the rich to take advantage of the poor. I’ve had it happen a couple of times in my brief 76 years and it hurts but there is nothing a poor man can do but take it. Their money buys the best lawyer and sometimes even the judge. You can’t win and they know it. There pockets are much deeper and they know your limitations. In my case, I was upset that they could get away with it without any apparent retribution but Solomon clears that question up.

John Phillips mentions Ocar Wilde in his commentary as being an example of a soul gone bad. Oscars real name was Fingal O’Flahertie Wills. He was an Irish dramatist, poet and wit. At times he seemed brilliant. He was a gifted entertainer and speaker, but he was morally flawed which lead to his destruction. Wilde was an aesthetic, he exalted beauty over virtue. Nothing beautiful could be bad but he was not talking about the beauty of a woman. His affinity was not for women. He was really into appearance and fashion. He wanted to appear sophisticated and elegant. He was overly concerned with his reputation and popularity. He was not a fan of the church and made fun of Christians just like comics do today. All Christians were hypocrites and he made light of morality. He was a preacher of TOLERANCE. Yep, you know where we are going. He was accused of being a homosexual. He denied it and took the man to court but lost due to overwhelming evidence. He went to prison for two years and there he was throughly broken in practically every way. Shortly before he died, he joined the Roman Catholic church. Widle lost more than his health, popularity and gay life style; he lost his soul. What does it profit a man, if he gained popularity, standing, fame, and fortune if he loses his own soul.

Now for the rest of he story. The two people who took advantage of me never suffered financially. As far as I know, they died rich, but I am convinced, they lost something much more valuable than money; they lost their soul. Although both could have bought and sold me a thousand times, I would not exchange places with either for all the money in the world.
