God Be With You

May grace, mercy, and peace, which come from God the Father and from Jesus Christ—the Son of the Father be with us who live in truth and love.

My Thoughts

This is a story you need to hear: On September 19, 1945, Missionary Darlene Deibler was liberate from a Japanese prison camp at Kampili, Indonesia. The camp housed mostly women and children but the conditions were brutal. When released, Darlene was in bad shape, having been subjected to years of brutality and torture, she was beat down mentally, spiritually, and physically. Eight years prior to Darlene’s release, she and her husband had landed in New Guinea and started a successful work. They were making progress and building a church {a body of believers, not a building}. Dr. Robert Jaffray was leading the group and he and Darlene’s husband worked the town. Darlene remained at home taking care of the children. The Japanese murderd both her husband and Dr. Jaffray. As they lead her away, she left behind two white crosses. She had lost every thing she owned. She had no money, no purse, no suit chase, just the clothes on her back. She had no family back home waiting to see her. For eight years she got no letter, no cards, nothing from the states. She was relieved to be getting out of the camp but she was dejected, angry and depressed. As they put her in the boat to move her across the bay, she looked back at the island of her incarseration and said, “LORD I will never come to these islands again. They have robbed me of everything I held dear.”

But then is no time, she heard a group singing on the shore of the other side. They were singing GOD BE WITH YOU TILL WE MEET AGAIN. They were members of the church she and her husband had started; It was a growing thriving church. Darlene later wrote, “Hearing this song released me from my anger and bitterness; with my tears the bitterness slowly dripped away. The healing had begun and Darlene new that she would return to this island and make it her home. Amazing Grace!
