Recalibrating

Asaph, the author of Psalm 73, was a worship leader. In Psalm 73 he shares his discouragement over the prosperity and success of the wicked. They don’t seem to have the problems we do. In a way, it seems like God is blessing them more than He is believers. This was really troubling Asaph’s mind and he sensed that his heart was growing bitter with envy toward the wicked. The he went to the sanctuary {worship} and got recalibrated. His gyroscope had gotten out of perspective: he was confused, but in the presence of God he got it recalibrated. Asaph had been looking around {world} seeing the prosperity of the wicked and the success of evil and he was disturbed. Then he went to the sanctuary, looked up and saw the sovereign God on His throne and it changed his whole perception. Now he sees beyond this world and views eternity where the prosperous wicked have no future.

“Every week the world pulls our hearts out of alignment. It distorts our values, magnifies our problems, minimizes God’s promises, and dulls our affections for Christ. Then we gather to worship. Through Scripture, prayer, singing, and the preaching of God’s Word, God recalibrates our souls. He brings our thinking, our desires, and our priorities back into alignment with His truth.”

The kids got me a telescope for Father’s Day. I have always wanted to study the stars. The only thing I have seen clearly thus far is the moon. The problem with a telescope is that it must be aligned perfectly with the object you want to view. The least little bump will get you off or distort the picture. The stars are still in place, they have not moved, but we moved the telescope and sometimes the slightest bump will cause you to miss the object completely. The world bumps us around distorting our perspective and we need corporate worship to get recalibrated.

I don’t know what’s going on, sleeping late is becoming a habit. I have not made it to the office before daylight in two weeks. Hope you enjoy today’s blog. After yesterday, I tried to reduce my words but that takes more time.

I know most of us love Fridays. For many it is payday and for others it is the eve of the weekend. The great think about retirement is everyday is Friday except Sunday and Wednesday.
