My Thoughts
We never, no matter how old we become, reach a point where we do not need counseling. My first deep conversation with my earthy father happened after he retired and I was in my late twenties. We were on our way to St. Pete to pick up my grandmother {Daddy’s mother} who spent the winters with our aunt Ruth. Daddy really opened up on that trip and told me things that I had never imagined. It really helped me understand him better. Believe it or not, once he went to talking, I listened and I still remember a lot of what he said. Now I do admit that he talked about some things that I didn’t really want to hear but I tried to be understanding: looking back, I am not so sure that I gave him the sympathy his heart desired. There are some conversations children do not want to have with their parents. We will not go there; at least not today.
I was talking to an old friend yesterday. Although he is not as old as I am, he does understand the struggles that old men have and it is good to talk to someone who has a sympathic heart and a listening ear. I woke up around 1:41 am this morning and begin meditating on Isaiah 9:6 and The WONDERFUL COUNSELOR. Of course, I am talking about Jesus!!!
- Wonderful because He is always available. You do not have to have an appointment or any money. His door is open 24/7/365 and He listens without interruption.
- Wonderful because He cares. He is intensely interested in YOU. He loved you unconditionally; more than your mother and that is a lot.
- Wonderful because He can give you more than sympathy; He can give you peace and hope.
- Wonderful because He tells the truth; He will never lie to you or deceive you.
- Wonderful because He never makes a mistake: He never misleads or misguides.
- Wonderful because He can keep a confidence. You can tell Him anything because He already knows everything. Seriously, would you lie to someone who can see through you, see your heart and your motives. What you confess to Him is safe: He is not a gossip and He loves you.
- Wonderful because He will bear our burdens and give us rest for our souls.
- Wonderful because He doen’t just point the way, He guides, He walks with us.
- Wonderful because He is so gentle and meek. He does not intimidate us with His infinite greatness. You might say “He is down to earth.”
- Wonderful because He is patient and merciful. He could say to me…“Jack, have we not had this conversation before? How many times are you going to bring this up? Did I not instruct you in the way and tell you what to do?” Gentle Jesus, meek and mild, Look upon this lowly child, pity my simplicity, and suffer me to come to Thee.
Do you need to bare your soul to someone today: Go to Jesus, He is THE WONDERFUL COUNSELOR!

My rain gauge {high tech} is at the shop due to operator error. I’m about as good with it as I am a smart phone. So, I don’t know how many inches of rain we have had the past week but it will be close to 7. We got another big rain early yesterday and then avoided a couple in the evening. We are blessed with mud. If you need mud, we will be glad to trade mud for gravel. As my old buddy Hugh {Give’m fits} Fitzgerald use to say, “It beats a drought.” I do agree: I loathe droughts and extremely hot weather, so thank YOU LORD for the rain and cool weather.
My office is in a mess. Trying to restore it and in the process of putting tile in the bath room, BUT I must get back into my routine and I am really struggling. I need to spend more time inside studying than outside working on projects. I am going to try hard today to study and visit with no projects. Still undecided about new study for Wednesday night. Pray for me to follow the LORD’s guidance and to stay in the study.
I hope you have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
