Coming To Jesus

Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.
~John 7:37, LSB
I find in the gospel that the poorest, and meanest, might come to Jesus.
~Jeremiah Dyke
Our Calvinist friends say you can’t come to Jesus; they deny the human element in salvation. It is true that God has taken the initiative in salvation and there would be no salvation otherwise. Jesus came to us in the incarnation, and we could have never gone to Him. Yet His pilgrimage here gave us an opportunity to come to Him. There is absolutely no doubt that we could have never gone to HIM and the good news is: He came to us. This is really what Christmas is all about. It is also good news that we live in the age of grace and He invites us to come to Him now, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. I love the passage in Matthew 11, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” So whether you are thirsty or broken hearted, you can come to Jesus. There are countless NT examples of people coming to Jesus and He is never displeased by their coming. He never shuns or turns away from those who sincerely seek Him. Here is a list of folks who came to Jesus.
| Person | Scripture | Why they came |
|---|---|---|
| 1. The leper | Matthew 8:1–4 | He came for cleansing. |
| 2. The Roman centurion | Matthew 8:5–13 | He came seeking healing for his servant. |
| 3. Jairus | Mark 5:21–24, 35–43 | He came because his daughter was dying. |
| 4. The woman with the issue of blood | Mark 5:25–34 | She came in desperation after twelve years of suffering. |
| 5. The Canaanite woman | Matthew 15:21–28 | She came pleading for mercy for her daughter. |
| 6. Blind Bartimaeus | Mark 10:46–52 | He came seeking sight. |
| 7. The sinful woman | Luke 7:36–50 | She came in repentance, gratitude, and love. |
| 8. Nicodemus | John 3:1–21 | He came seeking spiritual understanding. |
| 9. The rich young ruler | Mark 10:17–22 | He came asking about eternal life, but went away sorrowful. |
| 10. The Samaritan leper | Luke 17:11–19 | He returned to Jesus to give thanks. |
| 11. The father of the demon-possessed boy | Mark 9:14–29 | He came with a desperate need and struggling faith. |
| 12. The Greeks | John 12:20–22 | They came wanting to see Jesus. |
| 13. Mary of Bethany | Luke 10:38–42 | She came to sit at His feet and hear His Word. |
| 14. The dying thief | Luke 23:39–43 | He turned to Jesus for mercy and salvation. |
| 15. Peter | John 21:15–19 | He received restoration after his terrible failure. |
This is not an extensive list, there are others who came to Jesus but it does confirm the truth that people can come to Jesus. People came to Jesus for all sorts of reasons: many came for healing. Some came to hear Him teach and other came to follow Him. Some came to have their sins forgiven which is why I came to Him. I venture to say that most came with selfish motives but there were some who were drawn to Him for His sake. They were in love with the GIVER, not the gift. It is true that Jesus can meet all our needs, but it is also true that the greatest joy to be found is in Him. How do we get to know another person? You spend time with them. Spend some time with Jesus, get to know Him.

- I can hear the rain as I do the blog. I do love this weather! Thank YOU LORD for the precious rain.
- I am broken hearted about the election. Unfortunately, the American people, as a whole are ignorant. They have been duped. They do not realize what they have done. I am not that worried about my generation, we don’t have that much time left but I am concerned for my children, grands and greats. When will people wake up to the reality that the democrats are marxist, muslims and left-wing nut jobs. We are not talking about John Kennedy or even Lyndon Johnson as sorry and mean as he was. We are not even talking about the incompetent Jimmy Carter. We are talking about people who intentionally wrecked our economy after Trump got it rolling and who want to destroy the REPUBLIC. Of course, the yellow dog dems don’t know what a Republic is, because they have swallowed the propaganda that we live in a democracy. Ignorance, gross ignorance and we will pay.
- I hope you have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
