If we are not careful, sin {especially pride} can make us monstrous or freakish. God created us with one heart; one mouth; two eyes, two ears, two hands and two feet. C.S. Lewis is famous for painting word pictures of monstrous people. In the VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER, there are the Dufflepuds. Creatures who have only one leg and one oversized foot and they hop instead of walk. Thomas Adams talks about our being double-tongued and double-hearted. We praise God with our tongue one minute and curse man who is made in God’s image the next. Instead of having one heart that is totally committed to Jesus, we have a heart for the world and a heart for Jesus or should I say religion. We have only one eye and it sees the faults of others but we do not have an eye to detect our own sins. We have only one hand and it is for taking, we don’t have a hand to give. Adams even suggest we have two heads, that we are double-minded. What a freak! What a monstrous creature!

Father, we do not want to be freaks; please give us one heart and mind to serve and obey Christ. Deliver us from our hypocrisy of praising You one minute and cursing men the next. Please help us be consistent in our walk and above all, help us to humble ourselves and not to think more highly of ourselves than we do others. Heal that blind eye that does not see our own sin and transgression. Make us whole and holy; not freakish and odd. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!

  • Hamburger and Hotdog supper Wednesday night September 16. Originally had this for the 9th but we decided to use the pavilion and so maybe the weather will be cooler by the 16th.
  • October 28 is our Bill Smith Jambalaya Supper and our November Wednesday night meal falls on Veterans Day and we are having a stew and Joe is going to have us a video of our veterans at the round table.
