Dread

Scripture
I inquired of Yahweh, and He answered me,
And delivered me from all that I dread.
Psalm 34:4, LSB
Quote
“The dread of suffering is often worse than the suffering itself.”
~Martin Luther
My Thoughts
I don’t think ‘dread’ is a sin because Jesus dreaded the cross; He could not have been human had He not. Jesus said in Luke 12:49, “I have come to cast fire upon the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! In the very next verse He adds, “But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is finished! The NASB uses the word dread 32 times which is more than any other translation other than the the LSB which uses it 79 times, but all in the Old Testament. Both Job and David used the word dread a lot. Dread is hard to define. It can involve fear but some fear is good. Dread is the apprehension of some coming event. Kids dread school starting. Josie is praying for snow just to get out of school.
In my youth I didn’t watch the weather and I never looked at a forecast but I look daily in my old age. A little snow doesn’t bother me but ice is a different thing. I don’t think we are going to get snow or ice, my dread, and trust me, it is a dread, is the 11 degrees on Monday and the 14 on Tuesday. Matter of fact, after Sunday, the entire month of January has a dreadful forecast. Our new living quarters are on a concrete slab. It is the best concrete job I’ve ever seen. Not only is it perfectly level, it has zero cracks and it is several years old. But when its get cold, it stays cold for awhile. To be perfectly honest, I dread the extreme cold weather, but I do prefer it over a heat wave {95+} and draught. But with the dread, I also have hope that February will be kinder to us Seniors with arthritis in practically every joint of our body.

Then 49er Fellowship is still on: 11:30 today! If you are a POINTER, check out the Grace Point web page. David Cowart does an excellent job on posting info and pics of our coming events.
My good friend and neighbor Randy Lewis remains very low. He was awake yesterday and he said a few words. I didn’t stay long. Pray for Randy and Vickie. They have a son that pastors a Baptist Church in South Mississippi. It is near the cost.
THANKS for reading the blog.
