O Magnify The LORD With Me

Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
And let those who love Your salvation say continually,
“Let God be magnified.”

~Psalm 70:4, NASB, LSB

True believers are not perfect people, but seeking people. They seek His face, His grace, His help, His will, and His glory.

I am sure that we all understand that we humans cannot in any way influence the attributes of God. Thus, in the technical sense, we cannot make Him greater or larger which is what magnification does. What we can do is make Him greater in our life. Magnifying God lies at the heart of worship. When we come together for worship, we should make much of Christ. David testified in Psalm 34:3, O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. David loved corporate worship. It is true that he wrote some of his best songs while in seclusion or hiding, but David loved going to the tent, especially the processional lead by the band, then the choir, then the virgins dancing with the congregation following and singing along with the choir. It was a big deal to David and should be to us.

I can worship in my little office building. With YouTube and a surround sound music system, I can have music, dance, shout, clap, bow or lift my hands, but it is not the same as public worship. When we come together it magnifies the LORD, it make Him bigger to us and those around us. I am convinced that this is missing in modern worship. The Israelites brought down the walls of Jericho with a shout, so why don’t we shout? When was the last time you heard a resounding shout that magnified the LORD? I am not talking about a hootenanny or a side show. One of my preacher was telling me the other day that he preached in a church where there was a group shouting AMEN after every sentence in his sermon. He said, “It was so distracting that I had trouble preaching.” Folks, this is not what I am talking about; this is not the way the Israelites worshipped. It was an orchestrated shout lead by the worship leaders.

I am not saying that individual shouting is always wrong but we have to be careful or the flesh will take control and instead of worship, we will have what I call a “Flesh Parade,” and no one will be edified and Christ will not be magnified. It is impossible to magnify Christ and ourselves at the same time. I know we are prone to misunderstand the Old Testament sacrifices but in the whole burnt offering, all the ‘flesh’ must be consumed. Our worship should begin with a whole burnt offering. In God is to be magnified, the flesh must be consumed.

Sorry folks, had trouble again this morning: thought I had posted but it did not come up and I have not be able to retrieve it so here is tomorrows blog and I don’t have time to do the extra. The crew is coming to build the tractor shed.
