Rest For The Soul

Let my soul be at rest again,
for the Lord has been good to me.

The mind finds peace when it settles on the sufficiency of Christ.

My Thoughts

David Cowart sent me a prayer a couple of days ago: I love to read prayers. A part of this one went like this…When I am weak, be my strength; when I am weary and anxious, be my rest. Grant me patience to endure this relocation and help me feel Your calming presence. Help me trust in your love and care, regardless to my physical limitations. Amen! Just what the doctor ordered. A few minutes after I read David’s prayer I turned to Psalm 116 {Psalm for today} and I could not believe my eyes. Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me. He has saved me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. And so I walk in the Lord’s presence as I live here on earth! Folks you can beat this with a stick. This was a voice from heaven to me. What a precious word for a weary soul!

Normally, after I read the Psalm from the text, I pick up my commentary and read it but yesterday the sparks started flying and I said, I have to get to my computer and write this down.

First of all: Note what David said about himself–

  1. I love the LORD
  2. I will pray as long as I have breath
  3. I saw only trouble and sorrow
  4. I called on the name of the LORD
  5. I was facing death and He saved me

Second: What David says about God {Yahweh}

  1. How kind the LORD is
  2. How good the LORD is
  3. How merciful the LORD is
  4. The LORD protects those will childlike faith

Third: The results for David

  1. Now my soul is at rest again
  2. Now, He saved my eyes form tears
  3. Now, He keeps my feet from stumbling
  4. So, I walk in His presence

The David reaffirms his faith in verse 10-14, I believed in You, so I said, “I am deeply troubled, Lord.” In my anxiety I cried out to you, “These people are all liars!” What can I offer the Lord for all he has done for me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and praise the Lord’s name for saving me.

WOW, what an encouraging Psalm! Now, you know why I love them.

Enjoying the beautiful weather. I was on the tractor when the sun came up yesterday; doing what I love, moving dirt and building our driveway but I can’t seem to get a full day in due to other things. June and I both had appointments with Dr. Harrison in Cullman. June got another A+ and for the first time in years, I got a good grade. We left Cullman a little after 4:00 and went to UAB to see Keith. They had a wreck on I-65 just pass malfunction junction and I sat on the interstate for 30 minutes, less than a mile from my exit and I had a Coke Zero on the way. I don’t know when I will learn not to drink when I drive but we made it just in time. I had a good visit with Keith, he was talking up a storm and I could understand 90% of what he said. He told me that he had already repented {night before} and asks Christ to save him. He said, “I joined the church at age 9 but it wasn’t real and I’ve always known that, but now I have it settled.” We read some scripture and had a prayer at the end. He is in very good spirits: he is being kind and gracious to the nursing staff. He is thankful to be alive. We got home last night about 8:00, totally exhausted mentally. I normally read at night or work on the blog but last night I watched two episodes of HOGAN’S HEROS. I went to bed laughing at Sgt. Shultz. It is a wonder that the Germans have not started another war with us airing Hogan’s Heros where the Germans are portrayed as idiots. They are obnoxious know-it-alls but they are not idiots.

Anywho, we have plenty to do and we are hoping no rain but may the LORD’s will be done. We definitely will not be moving this week. We have several loose ends that have to be tied up but we are closer and I am thankful. Transmissio went out of Colorado again. June is already trying to deal with Lynn Layton. It is what it is but I hate trying to deal with the corporate world. They will cheat you out of your last dollar. We have a warranty, whether it will be honored is a different matter.

Have a great weekend and thanks for reading the blog.
