The Lamp

Scripture

Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light on my path.

~Psalm 119:105, REB

Quote

Joy without obedience is frivolous; obedience without joy is legalism.

~Motyer

I have a street light between the house and my mancave but it has a short and it burns only when the wind blows a certain direction. When the light is not shinning, there is a patch of darkness and we have some exposed tree roots in the path. The other night, in the darkness, I tripped over one of those roots. We need a lamp or a flashlight when we walk in darkness. Although the sun is out today, the world, morally speaking, is in darkness and due to this moral and spiritual darkness, we need a reliable lamp or light. The more I read this Psalm, the more convinced I am that David wrote it. Verse 105 sounds like David, “Your word is my lamp.”

There are a lot of twist and turns on life’s road, a lot of roots and pot holes. I need God’s word for direction. I cannot imagine living without His word.
