The Revelation Of Jesus Christ

Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven. And everyone will see Him—even those who pierced Him. And all the nations of the world will mourn for Him. Yes! Amen!

~Revelation 1:7, NLT

When Jesus returns; righteousness will triumph, evil will be judged, God’s promises will be fulfilled, and Christ will receive the glory He deserves.

~Theo Penn

When we think of the REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST, we think of a book that John wrote, the last book in the Bible, but the Revelation of Jesus Christ is an event; actually a two-fold event. He was revealed in the incarnation and He will be unveiled when He returns. Everyone will see Him and all the nations of the world will mourn for Him. My question concerns the mourning. Are we mourning for Him, over Him or because of Him. There are two other verses that John may have had in mind; the first is Zechariah 12:10,“Then I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on the family of David and on the people of Jerusalem. They will look on me whom they have pierced and mourn for him as for an only son. The other verse is Matthew 24:30, the words of Jesus, “And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.”

I see three possible reasons for mourning when Christ appears. First, the revelation of Christ’s true identity. The world will forced to recognize Him as the true Messiah, the Son of God. They will discover that the One they crucified is the One who reigns! Second, the realization of their guilt. In no uncertain terms, each person will know that they are responsible for Christ death on the cross. Third, the realization that the opportunity to reject Him with impunity has ended. The door of grace will be closed. The LAMB will become a LION. The One who came in humility to seek and to save has returned to judge and condemn which is something He refused to do in the first advent. Some think that this mourning has to do with repentance but I believe it is a lamentation over the impending judgment that they see coming.

There are some wonderful and encouraging insights in this passage. First and foremost, Jesus is coming back and this time in glory, not humility. He will be acknowledged as King of kings and LORD of lords. He will be the preeminent ruler of the entire earth and every knee will bow to Him. No one will view Him as a helpless martyr but see Him as a sovereign ruler. Justice will be established and wrongs will be made right.

John the Apostle spent three years with Jesus. He saw Him, heard Him and touched Him. Since the incarnation millions have believed who never got to experience what John and the other apostles experienced but when He returns, we too will see Him, hear Him and be able to touch Him. When by His grace, I look on His face, that will be glory for me!

  • We began yesterday with a little anxiety. We had one whole circuit not working in our apartment. PTL, we got it working yesterday evening. I am thankful.
  • Bill is supposed to get moved late yesterday but I have no confirmation that he did. We will find out later in the day. He is going to Moulton.
  • Tomorrow is our first Mid-week day service at 10:30. Terri’s team is serving lunch and it is KFC and the trimmings. It will not be a feast like the normal 49er meals. It will be a lunch. There are four teams and each team feeds once per month. Terri has team one, I have the second team, Carol Bennich has the third and Vickie Beaver has the fourth. Don’t commit to more than one team but if you have not been recruited and you want to help; go to one of the team leaders and volunteer. I could use some dessert makers on our team.
  • November 8 is our CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE. It will be a busy week here as we try to get things ready but that is a good thing. It is motivation and at 77 we need motivation and energy. As June’s mother use to say, “My get up and go has already gotten up and went.” It will be from 2:00-4:00. Eat a light lunch that day because we are going to have a ton of Christmas goodies. No gifts: we just want you to see our humble abode and to share a little Christmas with you. It is also an acknowledgment and appreciation of the unbelievable help you gave us in getting into our new home.
  • Wednesday November 11, Veterans Day service at 10:30 followed by lunch {Stew}.

  • We have a tough passage coming up tomorrow night {1 Peter 2:11-25}. We will be talking about the war. LORD willing, we will be counting blessing again Sunday. I think we will be in Colossians two.
