The Spirit of Antichrist

As you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come.

1 JOHN 2:18

One of the characteristics of the Antichrist who will come in the last days is that he will be “a deceiver” (2 John 1:7) who turns many away from God by his lies and apparent miracles.

His very name—Antichrist—clearly indicates his character as well as his mission: he will be sent into the world as Satan’s representative to oppose God at every turn. The Bible calls him “the man of lawlessness . . . [who] will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshipped . . . proclaiming himself to be God” (2 Thessalonians 2:3–4 NIV).

Is the Antichrist alive today? No one can say for sure. But the Bible tells us a very important truth: the spirit of the Antichrist has often been among us. Satan is always at work to oppose God’s work, and some people deliberately take their stand with Satan, not God.

What does all this mean? It means we must be sure of our own commitment to Christ. If our lives are not built on Christ’s truth, we can easily be led astray. Don’t let this happen to you!
