Beg God to give you a waiting frame of mind and a patient spirit. According to John Collinges “there is nothing more sinful in itself, or more tormenting to us personally than an impatient and hasty spirit.” So says he, “there is nothing more helpful to our glorifying God than a quiet, gentle and patient spirit.” You are probably, he is talking about people like yourself. Hey, I get it! I was deeply convicted. The impatient gene is a curse, not a blessing. I think Collinges is right. I think Ben Franklin was right when he said, “Haste make waste.” You get a better outcome when you slow down. Collinges give five helpful tips on how to discipline ourselves to wait on God.

  • Acknowledge that impatience is the result of distrusting God. The key to overcome is to have faith in God’s word and believe that He will keep every promise.
  • Hope is what you cannot see.
  • Have the humility to accept any circumstance.
  • Beg God for patience
  • Practice Meekness

There is a lot of scripture to support Collinges devotional thought: Psalm 37 comes to mind: David said, Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him. Isaiah 40:31 also comes to mind: Those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary. The NIV reads, “Those who hope in the LORD.” The Holman and the NLT read, “Those who trust in the LORD.” This reallys supports what Collinges point. The Bald Eagle can reach an altitude of 10,000 feet if conditions are favorable. They are able to reach such heights by finding a thermal, a pocket of warm air that is circulating upward. They fly inside the thermal and rise with the warm air under their wings. Wait on the LORD and He will send you a thermal of grace that will left you. The eagle is never bothered by traffic; it soars high above earthly affairs.

  • Today is the first day of fall but I doubt if will feel like fall. It thundered from 3:00 pm until 9:00 and did rain a drop. I went to the pea patch hoping it would rain me out, it did not but it was cooler.
  • 49ers this Friday at 11:30. Next 49er meeting after this Friday is Christmas Party December 4 when we play bingo for the gift cards.
  • Mens Breakfast October 10 at 8:00 am.
  • Monday October 26…we are hosting the THE MORGAN BAPTIST ANNUAL MEETING here at the POINT. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I have asks the 49er to help and this will be our October 49er gathering. You do not have to attend the meeting. Just bring your food and join us for lunch. We will get the KFC, drinks and rolls but we need your help with the other things. It will work if we have a servant’s heart!
  • If ChatGPT doesn’t get the cartoon right the first time, it just seems to get worse. Sometimes they get it and sometimes they don’t. I told them plainly to put Don clothes back on yesterday and they didn’t. I got tired of fooling with them. The lack of patience once more.
