Peacemakers

Scripture

Matthew 5:9, NIV

Quote

He who walks with Christ will never lack peace within.
Thomas à Kempis (adapted)

My Thoughts

I am reading Martyn Lloyd Jones book on the Sermon on the Mount and I am in the beattitudes. Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers”. We all know trouble makers; do we know any peace makers. The following list comes from Jones, not me. Personally, I found them both interesting and convicting. Some of the things on his list, I had never considered, but here goes, the traits of a peacemaker.

  1. A peacemake does not look out for his/her own interest.
  2. A peacemaker hates his/her natural self. They loathe it and long to be free of it. They can honestly say with Paul, “O wretched man that I am.”
  3. A peacemakers primary concern is the glory of God.
  4. A peacemaker is not overly sensitive or easily offended.
  5. A peacemaker learns not to respond to every thing said: Peacemakers are swift to hear, slow to speak and even slower to get angry.
  6. A peacemaker views everything in light of the gospel.
  7. A peacemaker takes the initiative: even to the point of humbling themselves and assuming the blame. They are known for their gestures of good will. They are kind to those who are unkind to them.
  8. Peacemakers are patient; they are slow to blame or condemn others.
  9. Peacemakers are never talebearers; they never tell someone what someone else said about them. They never repeat hurtful words.
  10. Peacemaker are the most Christlike people you know

I don’t consider myself a trouble maker but after reading Jones list, I’m not sure I am a peacemaker. We have to learn to bit the lip and take the blame. Demanding our rights is the best way to stir a stink.

Extra

I am saddle sore folks, too much traveling. I was so tired I didn’t want to come to the office; I wanted to go back to bed. Hopefully, no trips today. My good friend Charles Sanford was promoted yesterday around noon. His daughters were with him when he departed. I have no idea when the service will be. Joe David and I were in Rainsville yesterday for Sandy Scofield’s Dad’s COLS.

LORD willing, the mover will be here Friday at 8:00 am to move my office building. This means I will be taking the porch off today. I will probably unhook the water tomorrow and the power on Thursday. I have enough blogs written for this week but we may miss some next week. I am trying to learn to blog from the I-pad but I am not very good at it. For the first time in a long time, I don’t need rain.
