Youth For Christ

“Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind.”

~Samuel Ullman

My Thoughts

Not everyone is high on youth. The great philosopher Plato said, “Young people are rebellious, pleasure-seeking and irresponsible. They have no respect for their elders.” Martin Luther the reformer said, “The young people of today are utterly dissolute and disorderly.” Even Socrates was down on young people; he said, “Young people love luxury. They have bad manners and contempt for authority. They show disrespect for their elders and they talk too much.” It seems that every generation of adults has a remnant of folks who are down on young people. I think history proves that there are good young people in every generation. It is also a fact that God uses young people to accomplish great things. David was a teenage when he killed Goliath. Joseph was a teenager when he had the dream of being exalted. Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were all teenagers when they were captured by the Babylonians and yet all were faithful in their witness. They would not bow, they would bend and they wouldn’t burn. They stood strong for their faith. King Josiah was 16 years old when he launched his campaign to destroy all the idols in Israel. Josiah was the first Puritan. He trembled at the law that Israel had spurned. The rest of his young life was spent on a crusade to rid Israel of paganism and idols. When it comes to purity of heart, he is Judah’s greatest king. Mary the mother of our LORD was a teenager. All the disciples were teenagers except Peter. Isaac Watts wrote his most memorable hymn while he was a teenager. Charles Spurgeon filled sanctuaries with his astounding oratory when he was a teenager. Cassie Bernall who died at Columbine was a teenager; yet a bold witness for Christ while a gun was pointed at her head. The hymn, MY JESUS, I LOVE THEE was written by a teenager {William Featherston}.

I have said it before and I will say it again, if REVIVAL breaks out, it will begin with the young people. Call it the Samuel Principle. God moves among the tender of heart. Eli was old, set in his ways, and satisfied with the status quo. Thus God spoke through Samuel who was just a kid. Whereas young people lack the wisdom that goes with experience, they have an abundance of zeal and they are open to the truth of God’s word. The older we get, the greater our temptation to take it easy. We seek comfort. We don’t want to change. We get set in our ways and nothing moves us. Young people are more susceptible to the movement of the Holy Spirit. They are more open and pliable. LORD, send a Great Revival and let it begin in the youth or the young at heart.

I hit a wrong button yesterday. I was trying to save a draft and I accidentally posted. So I think there were two post yesterday but one got trashed. I know now what I did wrong. I am sure there are a ton of mistakes in the second post because I thought I was saving it rather than posting it.

Our grand daughter Josie has been offered a full scholarship at UCLA for Soccer. That is the University of Calhoun Located on the Airstrip. If it were not for the private schools, we would go to State in girls soccer but no one in our area can beat John Paul out of Huntsville. We can even score on them.
