Standing On The Promises

Because of His {God’s} glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises.

“The pathway of life is strewn so thickly with the promises of God that it is impossible to take one step without treading upon one.”

~John Bunyan

My Thoughts

In 2 Samuel 7, God makes David some incredible promises. David’s conversation with the LORD begins with David making God a promise to build Him a house. Basically, the LORD said, “I don’t need a house and instead of you building Me a house, I will build you a house.” The God makes David seven great and precious promises.

  1. I will make your name as famous as anyone who has ever lived [v.9]
  2. I will provide a homeland for My people [v.10]
  3. I will give you rest from your enemies [v.11]
  4. I will make a house for you [v.11]
  5. I will raise up one of your descendants and will make His kingdom strong [v.12]
  6. I will secure His throne forever [v.13]
  7. I will be His Father and He will be My son [v.14]

These are incredible promises that seem unrealistic, yet all have been fulfilled or partically fulfilled. David’s descendants were a dismal failure. Other than Josiah, none of them had messianic qualities. As a matter of fact, some were purely evil. So how in this world can God keep these promises to David? I can tell you in one word…JESUS. Jesus was a descendant of David and He was the Anointed One.

Paul and Apollos figured this out and they could take the scripture and prove to the Jews that Jesus had to be the messiah. A part from Jesus, God’s promises to Abraham and David are null and void. Jesus is the perfect fulfillment and a part from Him, there is no fulfillment. So either you believe that JESUS is the Messiah or you believe that God breaks promises.

PTL we have water in the office building and I can flush the comode. We don’t have much water pressure but we do have water. LORD willing, we will be trying to move our tractor shed this week; we may start today. I am going to play it by ear. Ironically, I prayed for success yesterday and we encountered one problem after another. Nothing worked perfectly or fell into place but we by grace persevered. We are thankful. No one got hurt and we do have water in the building.

I hope you have a great Tuesday. Thanks for reading the blog. It will have mistakes, I wrote it this morning.
