Re-classifying Sin

Scripture
Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! Nevertheless, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it used what is good to bring about my death, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
~Romans 7:13, NIV
Quote
To the secular humanist, the only sin is to call sin a sin.

My Thoughts
What the bible calls drunkedness we now call “Alcoholism”. Drinking is no longer a sin, it is a disease and the only one I know of that comes in a bottle. Can you imagine someone pulling into a modern convience store and telling clerk, “I need some disease and death; do you have that in a bottle?” Gambling is a sin. Draw downs, casino, lottery: take your pick, they are all sinful and motivated by greed. Someone told me once, “It’s not gambling, the money is going to a good cause.” I always say, “If people are giving to a good cause they don’t need a jackpot to inspire them. The good cause is not their inspiration; it is their greed and their love for money. You can dress it up and call it what you wish but it is gambling. But we have come up with another name, “gaming disorder.” We’ll do just about anything to keep from calling sin a sin. Well folks there is a new god in town and he may be residing in your pocket or purse. It is called a smart phone. So what we are dealing with today {2026} is an addiction to cell phones.
Some people cannot put their phone down, not even while they are driving. They can’t put them down at resturants or ball fields. This is not true of my friend Bill, he leaves his on the Chester drawers everyday. It would be hard to accuse me or my sweet daughter in law of worshipping at the altar of modern technology, we don’t know where our phone half the time. I got up the other morning and had 82 unanswered messages. According to Common Sense Media, children and teens spend 8 hours and 39 minutes per day on their phones. First of all, why do kids need phones? According to Pew Research 70% of American adults believe they spend too much time on or playing with their phone. And what is with this talking into your phone in public; what makes you think people want to hear your diatribe? If you think you are not addicted, leave your phone at home or put it in a drawer for a few days. June does not leave home without her purse and it never rides in the back seat. She wants it at her feet. Some are just as bad about the cell phone.
I suppose there are some good things about social media but there are some bad and there is a danger of becoming addicted and spending far, far too much time on your phone. Teenage suicide is going through the roof and the trend began with social media and smart phones. It is all in Chapter 6 of Charlie Kirk’s book STOP IN THE NAME OF GOD.

I have a huge praise. I had some 20 things on my to-do list and I got all but five done. I was tickled pink. I went to bed praising the LORD. I enjoy working out side but I will be glad to get back to normal, whatever that is. A slight chance of rain on Thursday.
I hope you have a great day. Thanks for reading the blog.
