Strength For Today and Hope For Tomorrow

Your sandals shall be iron and bronze; As your days, so shall your strength be.

My Thoughts

In my scripture reading last week I came across Deuteronomy 33:25 and it really grabbed my attention. It is Moses prophecy for the tribe of Asher. The tribe of Asher was given hill country and rough terrain. Mastering this territory would be rough and steep. It would be a constant battle. The LORD does not always make things easy or pleasant: sometimes we are challenged. I attend a lot of COLS these days where the person we are remembering is younger than myself. I often wonder, “Why LORD did you take them and leave me?” A part of what I do is visit those in retirement homes and some of them are younger. I know it is a sin to worry but my deep concern is that my strength might not be equal to my days. I want to die climbing not reclining.

Folks this is my prayer or my dream but it doesn’t always work this way. I have never heard of one person who wanted to have a stroke or to be totally incapacitated. What we are promised is GRACE for today and bright hope for tomorrow. Thomas Chisholm began as a school teacher but entered the ministry after his conversion at age 27. He was a frail man who battled poor health all of his life. His favorite scripture was Lamentations 3:22-23, The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. These verses inspired him to write the hymn GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS. Other than a pastor friend, no one seem to appreciate his work until the Moody Bible Institute made it their theme song. Then a few years later, George Beverly Shea made it one of the most popular hymns in the world. I love verse 3, Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide; Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, Blessings all mine and ten thousand beside. LORD grant us strength for today and hope for tomorrow.

The LORD is good. His mercy and faithfulness are off the charts. I am so thankful we did not get frost on Saturday night: it did get chilly and I turned the heat on Sunday morning to keep Big Mama from freezing. Our tomatoes are growing like weeds and we have to many to cover. Hopefully there will be no more threats of frost.

Of course I have no idea what will happen but a monster week is on the calendar: it includes two COLS, the NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER, a meeting in Athens and the YOUTH RALL I think I have something on the calendar everyday except Friday.

I was shocked and heart broken to hear that my Doctor Jack Walker Moore passed away early Saturday morning. I knew he was battling cancer but I thought He had more time. He was a good man and a good doctor. He was only 60 years old.

We were down in attendance yesterday and some think it was due to decorations. I have no idea. I had last night off so I got to enjoy some extra rest.

I do hope you have a great week and thanks for reading the blog.
