The Real Super-Man

“Unless you believe that I am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins.”

~John 8:24, NLT

“If I could comprehend Him {Jesus}, He would be no greater than myself. I feel that I need a super-human Saviour.”

~Daniel Webster

My Thoughts

We have all known people who were larger than life, or so it seemed at the time. Wade Morris was one of those larger than life characters who I never dreamed would preceed me. I am telling the truth, the thought of him dying never crossed my mind. I guess, in a way, Wade was one of my heroes; he could connect with all age groups; he had a very unique perspective on scripture; he was exuberant, full of energy and always excited about something. When Joe David texted and informed us that he had covid, I had no doubt that Wade would lick it. In my mind, he wore a coat of armour and covid could not touch him. I was wrong, within hours Joe David called and Wade had departed this world. He had stepped from time into eternity and I was devastated. The truth is: Wade was as human as I am and we all need someone that is super-human.

I remember watching the first Christopher Reeves Superman movie. The character in superman is not real; it came from man’s imagination because deep down we all long for a Super-Man, someone larger than life, someone who has the power to insure justice and put evil in its place. I knew in an instant that the creators of Superman had created a character that is actually fulfilled in Christ. The problem being: the world, like the Jewish nation, does not believe that Jesus is who He claimed to be. Every time He used the two small words I AM He was declaring Himself to be God. In John 7:12-13 the scripture reads, There was a lot of grumbling about Him {Jesus} among the crowds. Some argued, “He’s a good man,” but others said, “He’s nothing but a fraud who deceives the people.” But no one had the courage to speak favorably about Him in public, for they were afraid of getting in trouble with the Jewish leaders. As C.S. Lewis taught us: the one thing Jesus cannot be is a good man. He is either who He claimed to be or He is a liar, fraud, lunatic. He claimed to be God, if He is not, He is a liar. You cannot have it both ways: either we bow before Him or we label Him a Samaritan devil like the Jews.

Perhaps your argument is that He did and said things that you don’t understand. Great! Wonderful, if you could comprehend Christ, He could not possibly be God. We don’t comprehend Him; we worship and adore Him. We don’t figure HIM out; we faith HIM out. He never upbraided the disciples for having a low intellect; He nicknamed them “Little-faiths” which is one word in the Greek. Trust Him, obey Him but do not try to figure Him out. He is our ultimate hero, the only human we can idolize! He is invincible! He is larger than life! He is the light of the world and darkness will flea His presence. What is the highlight of your week? Is it eating out at a fancy restaurant? For you men: hunting or fishing? For the ladies, getting your hair or nails done? I will tell you would it should be—Worship. Getting together with God’s children and loving on Jesus, bowing before Him and praising Him. Don’t you love it when people praise Jesus! We are a bunch of messed up humans who get a deep satisfaction from bowing at the feet of the ONE who knows no sin other than what He bore on our behalf at Calvary. Hallelujah, what a Savior.

The world sings “Hallilujah” and they don’t even know what it means. It is Hebrew for “Praise the LORD.” They are singing about Jesus and don’t even know it. Here is you a link. This may have been on American Idol, I don’t know. https://youtu.be/dLk9pzmaFHY?si=2kGsoxH8NDU4SBvC. I would download it for you but I don’t know how on this new system.

Yesterday was Doug’s last day with us at Grace Point. He is retiring and he and Cindy want to travel a bit which you need to do while you are young. I don’t want to go anywhere other than Lowe’s and Habor Freight. Doug has three brothers and his oldest brother Dinnis is a pastor in North Carolina. I think that will be Doug’s first trip: to sing at his brother’s church and here him preach.

Baccalaureate last night at DBC. I think this might be number 38 since the school system dropped the event. I always looked forward to it. We had two graduate last year and two this year. The Chloe Bugg moves to 8th grade. Eight down and one to go: went by in a hurry. The senior class sponsor helped us in the very beginning and then she was told that she couldn’t help us but the kids carried on the tradition without anyone from the system but slowly it has changed and last night there was an entire row of faculty members including all the administration. After these kids had done this for 20 years or so I contacted the Decatur Daily and asks Melonie Smith to do an article. The editor forbid her to do the article and to add insult to injury that did the opposite, an article on why school systems moved away from Baccalaureate. They got in to separation of church and state which of course, they totally misunderstood. What do you expect from the Daily? It was a good service last night and we do appreciate Dr. Ellis and the teachers for their support.

I am also excited about an invitation to go bream fishing with Jesse tomorrow. We are going {Lord willing} to Duck River outside of Cullman. LORD willing Ty and I are going to see Arden Breedlove {Ty’s Cousin} play on Wednesday. She plays SS for Austin and they made it to state. She has 28 home runs and has been walked over 70 times.

God bless you and have a great day!

Extra/Extra

~May 20th Shrimp Boil at the Pavilion: too hot to cook in the sun.

Everybody that reads the blog is invited. We will be outside LORD willing. Just shoot me a text and let me know you are coming. If it is raining, we will go inside. We will play that by ear. We need the rain so we are not going to complain. We will have a bean bag tournament if it is not raining.
