The Wedding Song

Psalm 45 is hard for me to interpret, it is a wedding song between the king and his bride. Psalm 45 is filled with the imagery of a royal wedding and the king is stunned by the beauty and loveliness of his bride as she and her train move toward Him. In Ephesians 5 Paul said, husbands… love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up His life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. Psalm 45 portrays the church as the bride of Christ who leaves and forsakes all other allegiances to devote herself to Christ her King. She delights in His love and shares his glory. The beauty Christ sees in us in not natural; no He sees the beauty of what He is making out of us, the transformational beauty resulting from His work of grace in our lives.

The bible is a fascinating book filled with truth and wonder. I believe it is God’s word to us. It is filled with promises that seem too good to be true. How in this world could Christ see beauty in me when I see none in mysellf. Many people believe that Christ can see the finished product; not what we are at present but what we will become by His grace. In other words, do you believe that Christ can make you beautiful? I knew a man who married a very unattractive woman. Of course, I questioned his wisdom; surely he could have found a more attractive wife but this woman came as close to perfection as any human I have ever met. Over the years her inner beauty became dominant and I saw in her a rare creature full of grace and kindness. Seriously folks, when I would sit and talk to her {she had cancer} it was like being in the presence of an angel.

You don’t have to be a good looking guy to attract a lady, or a gorgeous woman to attract a man: humility, kindness, gentleness and understanding are very attractive features. Most people have a yen to be loved unconditionally by the opposite sex and there is nothing more beautiful and stunning than sacrificial love. Seeing a devoted wife or husband is beautiful. Ten years ago, a good friend died with cancer. It could have been treated early and perhaps that would have extended his life but he was devoted to taking care of his wife who had cancer also. He may have been the most considerate person I have ever known.

Good news from Doctor Raley, no rotator tear and no surgery. God is good!
