Thinking And Thanking

Scripture
Every field is watered with the abundanc of rain—showers soaking the earth and softening the clods, causing the seeds to sprout throughout the land.
~Psalm 65:10, The Passion Bible
Quote
Rain is the most common manifestation of God’s mercy: without it we would perish.

It does not take long for the earth to parch when it gets in the 90’s temperture wise. I look out and I cannot believe my eyes, just three weeks ago we had mud holes and today we have baked clay, and it all happened so quickly. In terms of needs, rain is not an option. We must have rain. We are totally dependent on rain. Without rain everything dries up. I am not just talking about creeks and rivers: drought will kill an economy. It can wipe out a nation. Less than a hundred yards from my office is a pea patch where I planted over a pound of crowder peas a little over two weeks ago. I check it everyday and there are no sprouts because the ground is bone dry. So as I sat and read Psalm 65 in the Passion yesterday, I thought to myself, God can make it rain today, but only God. The conditions are not right but He could do it anyway. {and He did
I think it was July 4th 2014 but I am not sure. I was smoking chickens [not pot] underneath a shed. I don’t recall the weather forecast that day, all I remember is it started raining so hard that I could not go in the house so I stayed with the grill under the shed. It poured down for over an hour with no let up and when it did let up I could hear a roar that was unfamiliar. Ray’s branch had flooded and water was running over Iron Man Road. The bridge beneath the falls could not carry the water and so it was coming over the top of the road and falling a few feet below. It was awesome. A tiny version of the Niagara Falls: It was awesome! It all happened on a July 4th. That flood came out of nowhere. It was unpredicted.
The bottom line is the LORD is in charge of the rain. I don’t know if He goes by a chart or a schedule or what, but I do know He is the one we thank for the rain and when we think about rain, we have to think about the ONE who provides it, amen! So right now I am thinking about rain and the One who sends it. When He sends it I will thank Him for the rain.
The heat has caused us to make some adjustments. I worked a little between 7:00 pm and dark Tuesday night and went to the garden about 7:30 yesterday morning. I didn’t stay out there long. While I was there I got a message from Athens, my lifelong friend Carolyn Brooks Haynes was promoted. She is the one I got to visit last Friday and I may have mentioned it in the message Sunday. I am sure glad I made the effort and went to see her. It was a great visit. The LORD is calling His children home. I can hear Him calling!
I want to do a shout out to cousin Paige who listened to the Sunday night broadcast and reads the blog. It is sweet folks like Paige that keep me blogging. Hey, you never know. DBC has a good crowd on Sunday night but they have an online audience as well.
God bless you and thanks for reading the blog.
