Get Your Head Up!

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord,
Who made {the mountains} heaven and earth.~Psalm 121:1-2, NASB
For every one look that you take of yourself, take ten looks at Christ.
~Robert Murray McCheyne
Psalm 121 was my Mother’s favorite Psalm. It begin with that wonderful refrain, “I will lift up my eyes,” and two Psalms over, “I lift my eyes to you, O God, enthroned in heaven.” [123:1, NASB] Jesus used this same phrase in Luke 21, “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” I understand that the lifted head is a symbol and sign of pride but we are talking about looking up to the LORD and getting our focus on Him. Life can be a struggle at times. We face many difficult situations. Bill and Carol are in a storm right now. What are we to do when we experience a defeat, a dissappointment or a difficult situation? We look up to the LORD. We are not merely talking about an exercise of faith, we are talking about a mind-set, a principle, an attitude or a way of life. When we are down, we must look up. When Daniel was down in the lions den, he looked up. When Jeremiah was lowered into the botton of a deep well and left to die, he looked up.
Those of us who played sports have heard our coaches screaming “Get your heads up.” Failure is not final, we cannot quit and we cannot give into despair. We have to keep our heads up; we have to look up to the one who knows all things and can do all things. We have to focus on HIM who suffered more than we can ever possibly suffer and put our absolute confidence in HIM. Just remember:
- Faith looks Up!
- Fear looks around
- Pride looks down
- Regret looks back
- Anxiety looks ahead
I hope you will adopt number one on the list: lift your eyes to the LORD. Follow Dr. Luke’s advice, “Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.
- As you know, Carol Southern has been battling covid and now she is in Decatur Morgan with other issues. Her BP is high and she is having chest pain. Pray for this precious family. Bill still feels miserable and it is hard for him to get comfortable. I will be headed that way is a couple of hours. These are precious folks and friends and they are in desperate need of our prayers.
