The Wings Of Prayer

Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope.

~Psalm 119:45, NLT

Prayer without the promises {God’s word} is like a bird without wings.

~Edmund Calamy

I pray, you pray, we all pray but sometimes I question the effectiveness of my praying. When I read Calamy’s quote it put my mind to thinking: are my prayers wingless. I read the quote two or three times thinking that Calamy surely meant to say faith. It seems like the wings of prayer would be faith and hope but the more I read the more impressed I was that he could be right. I will say this: I pray God’s word back to Him every day. This is one of the main reasons I stay in Psalms all the time. David had an unusual gift of praisings God. I use his psalms when I am praying.

This morning I prayed Romans chapter six which was our SS lesson a couple of weeks ago. Basically, I asked the LORD to not allow sin to lord over me. I do not want to be a slave to sin. I want to be dead to sin and self and alive to Christ. When temptation knocks, I want to respond like a dead man {who of course does not respond at all} and when Jesus knocks, I want to answer “Here am I LORD, what would You have me do.” I may pray Romans seven later today. When we pray the word back to God, we know that we are in his will. If you have never done this; I highly recommend that you give it a try.
