Mrs. Job

Scripture

But Job replied, “You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.”

~Job 2:10, NLT

Believers this side of the cross have many more examples from the bible and church history to encourage them when suffering comes.

~Robert Alden

I bought a brand new book the other day for a quarter. I got it at the thrift store in the CARING PLACE where our beloved Cleo works on Monday. It is on Job and written by Chuck Swindoll. I do not consider Swindoll a scholar but he is very bright and he writes good books. I have been known to take issue with popular authors when I come across something that I disagree with. Swindoll is a fan of Job’s wife. He defends her. He feels like she has been abused by preachers like myself. He points out the fact that she lost ten children also; so she is grieving. She lost a great deal of security due to Job losing his fortune. She probably had to alter her life style because without Job’s income, life became hard. I don’t know that they lost their home. I do not think they did and she basically kicks Job out because of his repulsive sores which caused him to stink. Job lived with the homeless at the city dump.

I am not Swindoll and I am not making excuses for her. When her beloved husband {not a better man on the planet} needed her most, she was not there. She did not care for him when he was down. She did not comfort him. She did not encourage him in any way. Matter of fact, she worked hand in hand with Satan to destroy Job’s confidence in God. She cursed his integrity; she even encouraged him to give up and commit suicide. I am telling folks, she was a piece of work.

Swindoll said, “There was not a better man than Job in his day.” I corrected that error also, “Other than Jesus, there is not a better man period.” What really burned my cookies was Swindoll referring to Mrs. Job as “sweetheart”. Yeah, right; I had rather cuddle with a rattle snake. I see nothing sweet about her and she always put her interest before her husbands. Everything she had lost she had in the first place because of Job. The children, the big house, the rich living, the respect of the community was all due to Job. When the LORD allowed Satan to take everything from Job and leave him with nothing, she had no use for him. When Job recovers and becomes even wealthier, she gladly takes him back.

You know why I believe Job was the best of the best; he took this hateful heifer back. He didn’t have to; he had enough money to burn a wet mule. He could have traded this old battle-ax in for a younger model but he loved her in spite of her sinful ways. I am not as good a man as Job: I would have sent that heifer packing.

Extra

Another great LORD’s day. I am telling you folks, I have a lot to be thankful for. We were down number wise but we did have a delicious meal after the service and we could have fed at least 100 more people. I asked Steve what our LMCO was and he said, “Less than a thousand.” Well we had less than 500 for worship.

Then last night I drove Big Mama caroling. She was the vocal leader of one of the groups. She did good. Of course, I can’t sing yet and don’t know if I’ll ever be able to make a joyful noise but I went along. I don’t want to hurt my wife’s feeling but I am going to have to give the OUTSTANDING VOCAL LEADER award to one David Wood. David put on the dog. He showed out in a good way. Ginger was proud as a peach.

Two of our greats were caroling on our team: Sweet Caroline goes caroling in sub-freezing weather at the age of five months. Jackson, our great grand son was also with us. This is Essie Day Glenn holding Sweet Caroline.

I hope you have a great week. Thanks for reading the blog.

Christmas Parties

We had dinner with Grace Point yesterday and supper at the Frieght House with the carolers. The preachers have their Christmas brunch at Cracker Barrel at 10 this morning and DBC’s staff Christmas is at Longhorn on Tuesday. We have a party or a ball game every night his week except tonight. I love Christmas.
