Time With, NotTime For

Scripture
Martha, Martha, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
~Luke 10:41-42, NIV
Quote
What are your priorities? Better still, what is your priority?

My Thoughts
When I was a kid, people, not just our family, hunted and ate rabbits. I remember sitting at my grandmother’s table, bitting down hard on some rabbit and hitting a buckshot that was missed when the rabbit was cleaned. Yes, it hurt. Reminds me of Haddon Robinson’s story about the old man’s instructing a young person on making rabbit stew…“First,” said the old man, “you catch the rabbit.” It would be impossible to have rabbit stew without a rabbit. Of course when it comes to stew, I prefer beef or chicken but if I was hungry, I would eat rabbit. We all have priorities, things we value more than others. I love to fish but it is not a priority.
What matters most to you? What is truly important or has eternal significance? Martha was a type-A personality. She was active, what I call a pot-banger. I had two aunts that we Martha’s…busy, busy, busy…and I have a sister and a wife that are Martha’s. They are servers, not sitters. I have no regrets about being wed to a Martha because I like to eat and the Martha types use the kitchen. The Mary types prefer reading books or listening to tapes. You can hide their Christmas present in the oven. When I get hungry, I want food, not a discussion about a book. Of course you have heard all this before and everyone picks on Martha, even Jesus gave her a mild rebuke.
Here is the problem: Martha was spending time for Jesus {preparing his supper} and Mary was spending time with Jesus. There is a huge difference in the two prepositions. Most of us have been guilty of running here and there, spending time for Jesus but we get so busy that we don’t spend any time with Jesus and as Jesus said, this should be a priority. Are you spending any time with Jesus? Are you willing to make it a priority?
This was Jesus last week on earth; days later He would be gone. Which lady had the most regrets? Do you really think that Martha said to herself, “If only I had made one more dessert.” I don’t think so. I think she would confess, “I wish I had taken my apron off and sat down in the den and listed to my Master’s every word.” The world is not on your shoulders; everything does not depend on you or revolve around you. Find a place, relax and spend some quality time with Jesus. You will never regret it!

Problems this morning. As Michael says, “Most likely operator error.” Anyway, I could not get online to post. I was in my office by 4:00 but none of my techs are up at that hour and Holly has to leave early to drive a school bus, one of my techs is in hair-fixing school and the other one sleeps to 2:00 in the evening. So I had to wait for Holly to get here and this is why I am late.
I’ve been up and down with the broken ribs. I think I over did it yesterday but Tuesday was good. I have one good day and then another bad one. I did get more rest last night than usual. The diet has me depressed. This is my third day with out M&M’s, cake, ice cream, strawberry jam and biscuit. I love June driving. Last night coming home from church, she stopped at CB and got me the large grilled catfish plate, I started on it as soon as she got in to the car. It barely made it to the rail road track. I ate those two fish faster than John Harold use to eat two fried eggs. The boy could eat a whole breakfast platter in less than a minute. He was faster in his day than Adam or Joe David and that is fast.
By the way, an angel made me a batch of haystacks Sunday night, they didn’t make it to daylight Monday morning. When it comes to sweets I have apiranha appetite. I attack and in seconds, it is gone!
Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
