Under The Tent

Scripture
For He will hide me in His shelter in the day of trouble; He will conceal me under the cover of His tent; He will lift me high upon a rock.
~Psalm 27:5, ESV

My Thoughts
I can’t remember the last time it has rained for ten days straight and I am not talking about one shower a day; we are talking two or three. So far no bad wind and very little lightening. We did lose power for about 45 minutes yesterday morning. Thank goodness for a gas hot water heater and our little battery lantern. It bothers me that my tractor and mower are out in the weather. I don’t have any of my sheds built, but they are machines. I am really thankful that June and I have a shelter. When the storms come, a shelter becomes very important. Rain, wind, cold and extreme heat can be threatening and we need shelter, but not as deadly or frightening as sin, death and hell. Those three constitute a storm I do not want to face. Who can save me from death, sin and hell? You know the answer, Jesus and Jesus alone. Money or morality will not save us; only the atoning blood of Christ can save us.
The Psalms are saturated with Jesus. He is in practically every Psalm. In Psalm 27 Jesus is our LIGHT and our SALVATION. He is also our TENT, our sanctuary, our shelter and refuge. Hudson Taylor said, “We are safest when we are resting in the will and care of Christ.” I agree, the only safe place in this universe is to be in Christ. In the Old Testament there was a Tent or a Tabernacle. It was the place where God’s presence was manifest. It was a place of worship but it was also a refuge or sanctuary. When people were in trouble, that ran to the Tent. Jonathan Edwards said, “Run to Christ as your only refuge and hiding place.” If you are in trouble, run to Jesus today.
Reminds me of an old hymn…I feel the touch of hands so kind and tender. They’re leading me in paths that I must trod. I’ll have no fear ’cause Jesus walks beside me for I’m sheltered in the arms of God. So let the storms rage high, the dark clouds rise, they won’t worry me for I’m sheltered safe within the arms of God.
So get under the Tent {Tabernacle} and the way to do so is to go to the altar at the door, confess your sins, repent of them and trust Christ to be your Savior and LORD. You cannot enter the tent unless you go to the altar: Like the Ark, the Tent has only one door.

I went brain dead yesterday, forgot all about it being Memorial Day weekend. I am thankful that Joe and Teressa remembered. We had a good service and Joe and the praise team did good: I enjoyed it. Ryder liked the part where the congregation sang with out music. You sounded great! You can imagine how thrilled I am to hear your voices. I do hope you have a good Memorial Day and remember to reach out to any mom or dad you know who lost a son or daughter in order to preserve our freedom.
Army Cpl. Jon-Erik Loney

Died November 28, 2006 Serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom
Jon Erik Loney 21, of Danville, Ala.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany; died Nov. 28 of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations in Hit, Iraq. Jon-Erik was a 2003 Danville High graduate. He also was an avid musician, gun collector and loved to fish. His friends and family knew him as a good man and a kind-hearted person. Jon was a youthful 21 years of age. His body was interred at Oakridge Methodist cemetery which is only a mile from where we live. LORD willing I will see his mom today. Joe David and I usually attend the Memorial Day service in Decatur. Last year it was at the Elk’s Lodge. A man that most of you have forgotten, because he attended DBC only a couple of years, by the name of Jess Clanton accompanied me to Jon’s memorial service which was at Iron Man Baptist Church. I think Gerri Cole also attended. It was one of the most moving services I have ever attended, but of course very sad. I am afraid that Memorial Day is just another holiday to most Americans, this too makes me sad. Please give some thought to mom’s and dad’s who didn’t get to welcome their sons back home.

You never know what a day will bring: Jackson has been having headaches and neck aches and last night he got worse: Holden and Lexi carried him to the ER in Hartselle and they transported him to Huntsville by ambulance. His blood count was not right and so the entire family was very concerned along with the doctors. He was in HH most of the night until they made a final diagnosis: he has torticollis. I have never heard of it. It is a muscle related virus that causes the white blood cells to be elevated. He was released and is back home, PTL. We are thankful.
Joe David was with them so he hasn’t been in bed long and is not going to MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM. I still plan to go, just have to find out where and what time.
