Watch Your Step

Scripture
Now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep the promise you made to your servant, my father David, when you said, ‘You will never fail to have a successor ruling before me on the throne of Israel, provided that your descendants watch their step and serve me as you have done.’

My Thoughts
I’ve been told to watch my steps by my parents and mentors but it was always used in the fuguritive sense in reference to my behavior or attitude but these days, I have to literally watch my step. My brain and my left leg are not communicating properly, the least little thing can cause me to fall. Literally, I have to watch where I am stepping. I never resented or shunned being called a Senior Adult and I do not understand why this term is offensive to so many. We had a sweet lady at Danville some 35 years ago who would not attend our senior adult luncheons. She said, “I am not a senior adult.” We changed our name to the 49’er but she still wouldn’t come. She was 88 years old. Being a senior adult does not bother me in the least, it has many advantages and I like them all, but being referred to as elderly does bother me a tad.
My Nurse Pratictioner who gives me my shots in the knee {they hurt} has a lot of compassion. She always takes her time, talks to me gently, uses everything at her disposal to make it less painful. She uses numbs-it, the freeze spray, and litacane but it still hurts. It hurt so bad yesterday that I had tears in my eyes. She looked up at me with the most compassionate smile and said, “I am sorry, I know that hurt.” It is the kind of respect you give to the elderly, and I do appreciate Rachel and all those like her. Thank you for recognizing the fact that we older folks cannot do what I once did and keep they compassion and understanding coming. When my poor old daddy use to cry on my shoulder about his aches and pains and things that no longer worked; I shrugged it off. I would say something like, “Daddy you are 75, what do you expect.” I can tell you now: he expected his son to be more sensitive and to show some kindness and compassion.
Never, never, never doubt: you will reap what you sow. You treat your parents like they are old and your kids will treat you like you are old. I’m not complaing: I have it coming. What goes around comes around. As the great law giver said, “Be sure your sins will find you out.”

Ran out of time yesterday so our agenda remains the same, trying to get power to our building. Joyce’s son Keith is at UAB. He has a serious heart issue. He was there Sunday but he took a bad turn for the worse yesterday and is now on life support. If I understand correctly, Joyce and Cindy where trying to leave UAB when we called last night around 7:00. He is in critical condition. Please say a special prayer for Joyce and the girls: Cindy and Connie. My plans are to check on Joyce and Blake this evening. We have the baseball field dedication at 4:00 and worship at 6:00.
We are still in no man’s land in regards to the blog. There is a possibility that there will not be one tomorrow or Friday. It all depends on how things work. Just be prepared.
Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
