Seeing Christ

I saw one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His chest with a golden sash.
~Revelation 1:13, LSB
“Christ is such a golden mine of wisdom, grace, and glory — which neither saints nor angels can ever fathom.”
~Thomas Watson
In an effort to create some space in my office, I burned most of my old journals and notes a few weeks ago. It was a difficult thing for me to do. I kept a few things back at random and made a commitment to read a page a day from the notes and journals. This comes from my notes of August 13, 2006. I assume I wrote it but of course I do not remember writing it, but I thought it was worth sharing.
John the aged apostle is in prison on the island of Patmos. It is basically a big rock in the middle of the sea. It is a Sunday and John is having worship. First he hears a voice and then he turns to see who is speaking and he sees Jesus. Remember, John has not seen Him in over sixty years but he recognizes Him immediately. He remembers Jesus dressed in His peasant garb but this time Jesus is dressed like a King. John sees the resurrected Christ, the reigning Christ, the righteous Christ, the relentless Christ and the ruling Christ. Jesus hair is white, a symbol of His purity and perfect righteousness. His eyes are like flames of fire, they are focused and penetrating. His feet were like bronze. We are talking heavy metal, strength and power. He cannot be swayed, bribed or manipulated. His voice was like the thunder of Niagara Falls: awesome, over whelming, unforgettable and super powerful. In His hands were all the churches and all their pastors and His face like the noon day sun, too bright to look upon. This is the Jesus that is returning to earth as our Judge. He will judge both men and nations. When John saw this majestic, regal and powerful Jesus, he fell at Jesus feet like he was dead and I have a strong suspicion that we will do the same thing when we see Him. Even so, come LORD Jesus!
- To be honest we had a few glitches in our first two-service Wednesday. The main one was the middle adults not attending either service. We had three for the second service and that includes two who were at the first service. As for the Senior Adults and the morning crowd, they loved it and we are going to make it even better. We are moving the morning service to the fellowship hall. This will allow me to use the TV to display the scripture from my I-pad.
- Another busy day LORD willing. Going to Moulton to see Bill and then on to Florence. They have a Home Depot that you would not believe. Yesterday, two trips to Florette and one to Huntsville. That is a lot of going for a man who doesn’t want to go anywhere, but we are trying to get ready for our Open House which is Sunday 2:00-4:00 at 83 James Road. I wonder whose idea this open house was: it is turning into a lot of work.
- Next Wednesday in the am service, Joe is doing a tribute to our Veterans. We will meet in the fellowship hall. Our lunch menu is a Soup Bar.
- Menu for November Wednesday day services: Nov. 11 Soup Bar, Nov. 18 Pizza, Nov. 25 BBQ THERE IS NO PM SERVICE November 25 {Thanksgiving Eve}
- December 4…49er Christmas Party at 11:30. Christmas finger foods. Bring your favorite Christmas candy or cookie.
- Someone was telling me about some TV preacher who says that Abortion is not mentioned in the Bible. He is ignorant. I will show you, LORD willing, in tomorrow’s blog were abortion is strictly prohibited by the word of God. His problem is that he wants to use the Bible to legitimize his sin. Pardon my French, “It aint going to work.”
- I hope you have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
